In a great move to bring solidarity between the university and the 90 shore communities in New Jersey affected by Hurricane Sandy, Director of Athletics Tim Pernetti announced on twitter that the Rutgers football program will be wearing special jerseys and helmets for their April 27th Scarlet-White spring game. The jerseys and helmets will then be signed and presented to every community represented in addition to a $5 donation collected from those who attend the scrimmage. Rutgers athletics has also sold more than $61,000 worth of “Rutgers Strong” t-shirt since last fall. In addition, Scarlet Fever, located in New Brunswick working in partnership with Rutgers athletics, raised approximately $87,000 for the Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.
